Creating iSCSI target by using physical disk

Physical disk device is mapping the physical disk to an iSCSI disk. In this case, user can perform low level disk operation to the iSCSI disk, for example, changing the partition of the disk and format a partition with new file system. All the disk operations to iSCSI disk will be bridged to the real physical disk.

Creating A Physical Disk Device

Follow the steps below to create a disk device:

Step 1. Click Add button on the top toolbar of the management system, then the Create iSCSI Target wizard popup up.

 

Choose Hard Disk in the iSCSI Device Type group.

Press the Next button to continue.

Choose Physical Disk in the iSCSI Disk Type group.

Press the Next button to continue.

Step 2. Select a physical disk form the list.

Option: Persistent exclusive access on this device, when this device is selected as target, it will denied access from server itself, it is a recommend option when you share the storage for read-write purpose.

Step 3.Finish Creating iSCSI Target

Enter the Target Name.

Select an authorization mode, if you don't know how to do it, you can see the topic Authorization Mechanism.

Global Authorization: Indecate target will inherit authorization information (CHAP and IPFilters) from global, otherwise target will have its own authorization information.

Concurrent Access: Indicate target allow concurrent read-write operations.

Report Readonly: Indicate target will report as read only device if initiator don't have write access.

Press the Finish button to complete iSCSI target device creation.
