Virtual Optical Device KernSafe Storage Center

A virtual optical device maps an image file on the server to an iSCSI CD/DVD-ROM target. It is commonly used to distribute installation media, utilities, or other read-only content to remote systems.

Creating Virtual Optical Device

Follow the steps below to create a virtual optical device:

Step 1. Click New on the toolbar to open the Create iSCSI Target wizard.

Choose Optical Device in the iSCSI Device Type group.

Press the Next button to continue.

Choose Virtual Optical Drive in the Select CD Type group.

Press the Next button to continue.

Step 2.  Click Browse to select an image file.

Press the Next button to continue.

Step 3. Finish creating the iSCSI target.

Enter the target name.

Select an authorization mode. If you need more information, see Authorization Mechanism.

Global Authorization: The target inherits CHAP and IP filter settings from the global configuration. If this option is cleared, the target uses its own authorization settings.

Concurrent Access: Allows multiple initiators to access the target concurrently when the workload supports shared access.

Report Readonly: Reports the target as read-only when the initiator does not have write permission.

Click Finish to complete target creation.
