KernSafe KVault Initiator is a macOS iSCSI initiator designed to connect Mac Pro, Mac mini, iMac, MacBook Pro, and other supported Mac computers to an iSCSI SAN. It provides a user-space iSCSI client and a straightforward management console for discovering, connecting, and disconnecting remote storage.
Add an iSCSI discovery portal, discover available targets, select a LUN, and log on from one place. Connected storage is mounted through macOS FSKit as a KVaultFS volume and can be used in Finder like other mounted storage. Favorites, Connected, and Failed views make recurring storage workflows easier to manage and troubleshoot.
KVault Initiator supports two repository workflows. Open an existing KVaultFS repository without changing its data, or select Format as a new KVaultFS repository when preparing a new LUN. The same application can also use a local disk image, giving developers and administrators a practical way to test storage layouts before connecting shared SAN hardware.
Optional CHAP authentication protects target login credentials with the macOS Keychain. Read-only mounting is available for inspection and recovery workflows. For production storage, KVault Initiator combines durable block I/O with KernSafe storage virtualization and data protection solutions to provide a dependable path from iSCSI block storage to a Mac file system.
