KernSafe iSCSI SAN 6.0 extends the cross-platform storage foundation already available in versions 1.x through 5.x, including support for Windows, Windows clustering, Hyper-V, Linux, Solaris, Citrix XenServer, and VMware ESX Server. It also retains enterprise features such as snapshots, Server Pool, IPv6, and a broad set of device types.
Version 6.0 introduces a major storage architecture enhancement:
Storage Pool, a 100% SDS layer that aggregates physical disks into pooled storage and creates dynamic block volumes for client use.
These volumes support unlimited zero-copy snapshots, redundancy, scale-up expansion, and both all-flash and hybrid SSD/HDD layouts.
Storage Pool supports three volume types:
- RAW: Raw mapping across multiple devices for maximum performance.
- Thin: Dynamically allocates space on demand and supports unlimited zero-copy snapshots.
- Log Structured: Similar to Thin Provisioning, but uses sequential writes that are optimized for HDD-based workloads.
Detailed upgrades from V5.0 to V6.0:
1. Added the Storage Pool feature described above.
2. Added web-based management for cross-platform administration on Windows, Linux, and macOS.
3. Improved concurrent I/O performance.
4. Optimized daemon scripts for Linux and hyper-converged deployments.
5. Improved HA features across all supported platforms.
6. Improved synchronous and asynchronous replication on Linux and hyper-converged platforms.
7. Added full support for VMware VAAI, ATS, Offload-Copy, and related features.
8. Improved the GUI.
9. Fixed known issues in the GUI and iSCSI SAN core services.
