KVault Initiator
KVault Initiator

A user-space iSCSI initiator for macOS that connects remote iSCSI SAN storage and presents it as a native KVaultFS volume in Finder. Connect your Mac to shared block storage without a kernel extension.

KVaultFS is KernSafe's own user mode file system that provides data protection and storage virtualization for iSCSI LUNs, local disk images, and other block storage sources.

The product is now available for BETA test.

  • User-space iSCSI Connect macOS to iSCSI SAN targets through a user-space iSCSI client, without a KEXT or legacy kernel storage driver.
  • Portal and target console Add persistent discovery portals, discover available iSCSI targets, and review connection state from one management console.
  • Existing repository or new repository Open an existing KVaultFS repository as-is, or explicitly format a LUN as a new KVaultFS repository before mounting it.
  • Local and SAN storage sources Use a local disk image or a remote iSCSI LUN through the same repository and mount workflow.
  • Read-only protection Mount an existing repository in read-only mode for inspection, recovery, and workflows where source data must not change.
  • CHAP authentication Configure optional CHAP credentials for secure target login; the secret is stored in macOS Keychain rather than portal configuration.
  • Reliable block I/O Use aligned local-image I/O and FUA-backed iSCSI writes so completed writes are durable before the operation returns.
  • Connected, favorite, and failed views Find active sessions, saved targets, and failed connections quickly while managing multiple storage endpoints.
  • FSKit volume integration Present an authenticated iSCSI LUN as a LevelFS file system volume that can be opened and managed from Finder.
  • Session controls Log on to and log out of selected targets cleanly, with reconnect settings and LUN selection available in the mount workflow.
